I'm known as the over-seller in my friend group. When I tentatively like something, I will tell the world about it, tap shoulders and just cajole people to like the thing that I like.
Sure I want to sound clever and hip and I want them to enjoy a good book.
Right now I’m reading this chonk of a book. The Will of the Many by James Islington.
And I gotta tell ya, I’m wrapped in it. Take Red Rising and Hunger Games. Pick out your favorite parts and then slam a great magic system into it where the stakes are brutal.
But I talked about that earlier. I just wanted you to know that I’m still in it. I won’t (ooooh, I’ll try) not to mention it again until I’m done.
Independent Bookstore Day
That was yesterday. I should have told you earlier. I didn’t even get a picture. Well, here’s me and my partner, Patrick, at one a couple of years ago.
Support your independent bookstore. Sure it costs a bit more. But when an independent bookstore closes—a little piece of your city dies. (And I bought too many books. Again.)
A Book I’m going to Dig Into Soon
I’m a huge Robert Jackson Bennett fan (His City of Stairs trilogy blew my mind.)
And I’ve heard such great things about this:
It’s about monsters and poison. Everyone I’ve talked to has dragged me into an alley to slap me with this hardcover. So that’s up next.
Not Reading Enough?
I keep a book in my car most of the time. When I’m waiting for something (not while driving) I bust out that book and get some pages done. (I can’t listen to an audible book in my car. Chicago isn’t the place for that. Not the best place to simulate a different world. You’ll kill a pedestrian.)
The Worst Discovery
Found this recently. And I only need like, $15,000 to start my collection.
Take care and I’ll talk to you soon. More Hobbit quotes to follow—sorry Bilbo.
